Connecting Connecticut through Health Information Technology
What is eHealthConnecticut
eHealthConnecticut is a not for profit entity incorporated in January 2006 and represents a collaborative approach to meeting the challenges of health information technology adoption and interoperability for the entire State. It is Connecticut’s single organization focused on statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE), with the combined governance and resources of the public and private sectors and the flexibility of a private corporation. A Board of Directors representing physicians, providers, consumers, purchasers, payers, academia, and quality organizations governs eHealthConnecticut, with State agency officials providing direction on an ex-officio basis. eHealthConnecticut operates in a transparent fashion with the necessary privacy and security protections in place to earn trust from all entities and the general public.

eHealthCT Designated as a Chartered Value Exchange (CVE)
On September 3, 2008, eHealthConnecticut became one of 25 community projects nationally that has been designated as a Chartered Value Exchange by the US Department of Health and Human Services. This designation is a very important milestone for eHealthConnecticut and provides the opportunity for eHealthConnecticut to participate in a nation-wide Learning Network that will be sponsored and maintained by AHRQ. The Learning Network will provide eHealthConnecticut with access to expert faculty, lessons about successful quality improvement, and consumer reporting. This designation gives eHealthConnecticut nationwide visibility and will aid its efforts to promote statewide adoption of health information exchange and health information technology to improve the quality of health care for all Connecticut residents.
The CSMS-IPA works closely with eHealthConnecticut by participating on a number of committees in an effort to represent the interests of CT Physicians in the development of these statewide HIE initiatives.
